Health care is all about conversations, with over 2B spoken conversations each year between patients and their care teams in just the United States. However, people forget up to 80% of those conversations, leading to worse patient outcomes. And doctors are burning out writing notes in their EMRs instead of focusing on their patients. That’s where Abridge comes in — our audio-based standalone and integrated solutions record and summarize medical conversations, anywhere care happens.

Life at Abridge
At Abridge, we’re driven by our mission to bring understanding and follow-through to every medical conversation. Our culture is founded on doing things the “inverse” way in a legacy system—focusing on patients, instead of the system; focusing on outcomes, instead of billing; and focusing on the end-user experience, instead of a hospital administrator's mandate.
Abridgers are engineers, scientists, designers, and health policy experts from a diverse set of backgrounds—an experiment in alchemy that helps us transform an industry dominated by EHRs and enterprise into a consumer-driven experience, one recording at a time. We believe in strong ideas, loosely held, and place a high premium on a growth mindset. We push each other to grow and expose each other to the latest in our respective fields. Whether it’s holding a PhD-level deep dive into understanding fairness and underlying bias in machine learning models, debating the merits of a Scandinavian design philosophy in our UI/UX, or writing responses for Medicare rules to influence U.S. health policy, we prioritize sharing our findings across the team and helping each other be successful.
Abridge is an equal opportunity employer. Diversity and inclusion is at the core of what we do. We actively welcome applicants from all backgrounds (including but not limited to race, gender, educational background, and sexual orientation).

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our customers and for society as a whole.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Anthropic’s AI technology is amongst the most capable and safe in the world. However, large language models are a new type of intelligence, and the art of instructing them in a way that delivers the best results is still in its infancy — it’s a hybrid between programming, instructing, and teaching. You will figure out the best methods of prompting our AI to accomplish a wide range of tasks, then document these methods to build up a library of tools and a set of tutorials that allows others to learn prompt engineering, as well as work with high value partners to directly solve their challenges.
Given that the field of prompt-engineering is arguably less than 2 years old, this position is a bit hard to hire for! As a result, we ask that you share with us a specific prompt engineering project on LLMs that you’re proud of in your application! Ideally this project should show off a complex and clever prompting architecture or a systematic evaluation of an LLM’s behavior.

Representative Projects

  • Discover, test, and document best practices for a wide range of tasks relevant to our customers.
  • Build up a library of high quality prompts or prompt chains to accomplish a variety of tasks, with an easy guide to help users search for the one that meets their needs.
  • Build a set of tutorials and interactive tools that teach the art of prompt engineering to our customers.
  • Work with large enterprise customers on their prompting strategies.

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have 3-5 years of relevant or transferrable experience.
  • Have at least a high level familiarity with the architecture and operation of large language models.
  • Are an excellent communicator, and love teaching technical concepts and creating high quality documentation that helps out others.
  • Are excited to talk to motivated customers and help solve their problems.
  • Have a creative hacker spirit and love solving puzzles.
  • Have at least basic programming skills and would be comfortable writing small Python programs.
  • Have an organizational mindset and enjoy building teams from the ground up.
  • You think holistically and can proactively identify the needs of an organization.
  • Make ambiguous problems clear and identify core principles that can translate across scenarios.
  • Have a passion for making powerful technology safe and societally beneficial.
  • You anticipate unforeseen risks, model out scenarios, and provide actionable guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Think creatively about the risks and benefits of new technologies, and think beyond past checklists and playbooks.
  • You stay up-to-date and informed by taking an active interest in emerging research and industry trends.

Annual Salary (USD)

  • The expected salary range for this position is $250k - $375k.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including where you place on our internal performance ladders, which is based on factors including past work experience, relevant education, and performance on our interviews or in a work trial.

Logistics

Company-wide hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in our office at least 25% of the time. However, different roles may have different requirements - if this role has a different preference, it will be noted above.
Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. The Interpretability team at Anthropic is working to reverse-engineer how models work because we believe that a mechanistic understanding is the most robust way to make advanced systems safe. We’re looking for researchers and engineers to join our efforts.
Few things can accelerate this progress more than great infrastructure. As a research engineer, you will build and maintain infrastructure used by the whole team, including yourself. You'll touch all parts of our code and infrastructure, whether that's making the cluster more reliable for our big jobs, improving throughput and efficiency, running and designing scientific experiments, or improving our dev tooling. You’re motivated to understand our research so you can write code that accelerates it.
Our recent progress, presented in Towards Monosemanticity: Decomposing Language Models With Dictionary Learning, makes us believe that the main blocker to LLM interpretability, known as superposition, has transitioned from an open research question to primarily an engineering challenge. We’re interested in hiring for this role now more than ever because we believe strong candidates will significantly advance the state of the art in LLM interpretability.
About Anthropic
Anthropic is an AI safety and research company that’s working to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our customers and for society as a whole. Our interdisciplinary team has experience across ML, physics, policy, business and product.

Responsibilities:

  • Build infrastructure for running experiments and visualizing results
  • Design and run robust experiments, both quickly in toy scenarios and at scale in large models
  • Develop methods for understanding LLMs by reverse engineering algorithms learned in their weights
  • Work with colleagues to communicate results internally and publicly

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have significant software engineering experience
  • Are results-oriented, with a bias towards flexibility and impact
  • Pick up slack, even if it goes outside your job description
  • Enjoy pair programming (we love to pair!)

Strong candidates may also have experience with:

  • High performance, large-scale ML systems
  • GPUs, Kubernetes, Pytorch, or OS internals
  • Language modeling with transformers
  • Reinforcement learning
  • Large-scale ETL

Representative Projects:

  • Garcon - a tool which allows researchers to easily access LLMs internals from a jupyter notebook
  • ETL pipelines for collecting and analyzing LLM activations at large scale
  • Profiling and Optimizing ML Training, including parallelizing to many GPUs
  • Make launching ML experiments and manipulating+analyzing the results fast and easy
  • Writing a design doc for fault tolerance strategies
  • Creating an interactive visualization of attention between tokens in a language model
  • Familiarity with python is required for this role.

Annual Salary:

  • The expected salary range for this position is $280k - $520k USD.
Logistics
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in our office at least 25% of the time.
Deadline to apply: We expect to be hiring for this role intermittently, but our plan is to hire a few people in the next 2-3 months, and then will likely slow hiring while the team settles. (This opportunity was originally posted early July.)
US visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate; operations roles are especially difficult to support. But if we make you an offer, we will make every effort to get you into the United States, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Salary range $280,000 - $520,000

We are looking for Research Engineers to build “gold standard” evaluations for catastrophic risks, in order to understand what AI Safety Level (ASL) to assign to models. This will have major implications for the way we train, deploy, and secure our models, as detailed in our Responsible Scaling Policy (RSP).
The policy defines a series of capability thresholds – AI Safety Levels (ASLs) – that represent increasing risks – crossing an ASL threshold would trigger a commitment to more stringent safety, security, and operational measures, intended to handle the increased level of risk.
Research Engineers will join a team that is focused on National Security threats – evaluating whether models increase the likelihood or consequence of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear risks (CBRN) risks, and whether models make sophisticated offensive cyber capabilities available to unsophisticated actors.
We are also looking for expressions of interest in the team focused on Autonomous Replication and Adaption (ARA) threats, and a potentially expanded set of evaluation workstreams in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Research Engineers will be responsible for designing and running the evaluations needed to measure dangerous capabilities in models, and determine when we cross an ASL threshold.
  • You’ll work with world class experts in fields like biosecurity, autonomous replication, cybersecurity, and national security, and experiment with new evals, in order to measure how risky AI systems are.
  • Done well, this will inform decisions at the highest levels of the company

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have an ML-focused background and engineering and research skills (e.g. experience in Python)
  • Are driven to find solutions to ambiguously scoped problems
  • Design and run experiments and iterate quickly to solve machine learning problems
  • Thrive in collaborative environment (we love pair programming!)
  • Have experience training, working with, and prompting models
  • For all workstreams, experience designing and building evaluations would be valuable, but is definitely not essential. For National Security threats workstreams, we will particularly value experience working on confidential or sensitive projects and demonstrated integrity, responsibility, and trustworthiness. We will also value domain specific knowledge, although it is not necessary. For ARA threats workstreams, we would value experience with language model agents, although this is not essential.

Sample Projects:

  • CBRN risks – working with external experts in the field of biosecurity to design clear and repeatable CBRN evaluations, based on a summary of dangerous biological capabilities. Using our post training infrastructure to prepare new generations of models for routine evaluations.
  • Cyber risks – working with external cyber experts to co-design a set of clear and repeatable cyber evaluations. This is likely to involve building custom environments or additions onto existing tooling and infrastructure, or locating specialized datasets.
  • ARA risks – building infrastructure and tooling for testing for these capabilities, and iterating with external ARA experts to scope possible tasks. This will involve building custom “testing environments” and new infrastructure.

Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

About Arthur:

This position is a rare (and fun!) opportunity to help shape the future of AI and its real-world impact. We are an equal opportunity employer and believe strongly in front-end ethics: building a company and industry where strong performance and a positive human impact are inextricably linked.

About the role

Arthur is looking for multiple product-focused Machine Learning Engineers to join our team, to operate with autonomy and with the support of the team to lead and build out our product vision.

What you'll do

  • Focus on ML, especially LLMs, model performance, security, and robustness: make LLM and model-based systems respond accurately, quickly, and comprehensively to general and task-specific interactions by both natural and adversarial users – for example, checking veracity of responses, hardening against prompt injection, query-based routing to different models, and generation of evaluation datasets
  • Build out new techniques and tooling in ML model monitoring: data drift detection, high-dimensional density estimation, time series anomaly detection; detection and mitigation of issues in fairness and bias in ML algorithms
  • Identify, create, and deploy large-scale explainability methods for tabular, image, text, and other data – including human-centered explanations for generative AI applications
  • Run machine learning experiments independently and in collaboration with product and research teams, and communicate results to internal stakeholders as well as the broader ML community via publications in top-tier conferences, industry conference presentations, deep technical blogs, and events

What we're looking for

  • 3-5+ years of professional experience in Machine Learning, or in Engineering providing strong ML support, or in Data Science/Statistics with very strong Engineering expertise
  • Experience with deploying ML models to production and with comprehensive model risk management
  • Deep interest in LLMs (to start) and multimodal generative models (soon!), specifically around measuring bias or performance
  • Enthusiasm for staying up to date on the latest developments in the field – we operate in a nascent space with plenty of signal and plenty of noise coming from arXiv and open source projects
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices, version control, and containerization
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks, such as JAX, Tensorflow, or PyTorch, in addition to deep experience writing production-grade Python
  • Knowledge of and ability to (re)learn statistical methods and contemporary ML algorithms
  • Customer empathy and a willingness to engage directly with customers and stakeholders
  • Experience with public cloud services, such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure

You might also have (nice to have)

  • Experience or interest in interactive machine learning, HCI, human-centered ML and LLM evaluation, etc.
  • Experience or interest in explainability and fairness of recommender systems
  • A body of ML-focused publications (we tend to have a presence at NeurIPS/ICML, KDD, AAAI, CHI, and the newer responsible AI conferences like SaTML, FAccT, and AIES), technical blogging, and/or open source projects
  • A Masters or PhD in a quantitative field – we’re not sticklers for degrees (many of us have Masters/PhDs, so we intimately understand this isn’t the only way to be a domain expert)

What to expect at Arthur

  • Teammates who value curiosity, hard work, collaboration, and creative problem-solving -- and good swag
  • A team of professionals who are passionate about our work and making a positive impact through AI
  • A caring culture; we value and prioritize our team’s physical and mental health, encouraging and celebrating life outside of work
  • Autonomy to pursue your role and interests with room to grow, with a team behind you that always has your back
  • Joy, humor, and a little dose of healthy competition (in our business, we win as a team; on company game night, may the best Arthurian win…)

We offer

  • Competitive compensation plus medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401K (with matching)
    • Our target base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $230,000, based on your experience and how your skills align with role requirements
  • Equity in what we’re building together, backed by some of the most respected VCs in the industry
  • A flexible learning and development budget: we’ll support ways to learn and grow in the areas that matter to you
  • Highly discounted wellness and fitness benefits
  • Flexible PTO with vacation minimums, which we really want you to take and enjoy
  • The ability to work in a highly flexible hybrid environment with our team from home, and from our NYC office

***

Arthur is an equal-opportunity employer; we believe strongly in front-end ethics: building a company and industry where strong performance and a positive human impact are inextricably linked. This reflects in our desire and commitment to build teams that comprise different backgrounds and experiences. Arthur provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

link-outApply to Cerebras Systems

Responsibilities

  • Create tools and design workflows that enable the development, training, and deployment of machine learning models on our new hardware system
  • Map abstract computations expressed via third-party ML frameworks into representations that can then be compiled into highly optimized executables that target Cerebras’ system
  • Develop connections between representations of existing deep learning frameworks -- such as TensorFlow, Caffe/2, MXNet, CNTK -- with our customized back-end
  • Understand the runtime environments of existing frameworks and our backend, and develop an execution model connecting them together in a way that is seamless to the user

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in the University of Toronto's PEY program with a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related disciplines
  • Understanding of state-of-the-art deep learning model architectures and training protocols
  • Direct experience with one ML framework internals (like TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX, etc) strongly preferred
  • Strong Python and C++ development skills

Preferred:

  • Good understanding of how to define custom layers and back-propagate through them
  • Experience with supervised deep learning models such as RNNs and CNNs
  • Experience in vertical such as computer vision, language modeling or speech recognition

Cerebras Systems is committed to creating an equal and diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate different backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe inclusive teams build better products and companies. We try every day to build a work environment that empowers people to do their best work through continuous learning, growth and support of those around them.
