About the team & opportunity
Ontra is seeking a Senior Accountant reporting to our Accounting Manager on our Finance & Accounting team.
In this role, you will support the Company’s day-to-day accounting function, including month-end close activities (e.g., bank reconciliations, numerous asset and liability reconciliations, cost allocations, journal entries, etc.), monthly recurring and ad-hoc financial reporting and variance analyses, administration of T&E system and policies, and general accounting support which includes assistance with the annual external financial statement audit and research and documentation of complex technical accounting issues, among other varying responsibilities.

What you’ll do
- Accounting: Ensure the integrity of the accounting information by recording, verifying, and consolidating transactions in the Company’s accounting software (Sage Intacct); assist with day-to-day tasks including journal entries and maintenance of the general ledger
- Reconciliations: Perform and prepare various reconciliations and analysis as part of the month-end close process, including those related to bank activity, prepaids, accruals, and other assets and liabilities
- Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare monthly financial statements, budget vs. actual reporting, variance analyses, and various ad hoc requests
- A/P Process: Improve and automate A/P processes ensuring effective controls and compliance
- Documentation: Ownership of documenting policies, procedures, and processes within the accounting department
- Employee Expenses: Account for company credit card spend and administer employee reimbursement process, utilizing Expensify
What you’ll bring
- Education: Accounting degree (Bachelor’s)
- Experience: 3+ years of experience, preferably with a Big 4 firm or national practice
- Accounting: Understands fundamental accounting principles, GAAP financial statement preparation and reporting, practical operational accounting procedures (e.g., debits and credits, accruals and prepaids, implementation of accounting policies, etc.), and regulatory compliance
- Software: Experience and proficiency with accounting and related third party software e.g., Sage Intacct, Tipalti, Expensify, bulk payment platforms (i.e. Velo)
- Analytical Analysis: Strength and comfort in solving analytical problems utilizing data and financial figures; highly proficient with Excel (i.e., works with and creates reports, graphs, and charts using large complex datasets), including common formulas and functionality (e.g., V-lookups, if statements, pivot tables and other data-intensive analytical functions)
- Attention to Detail: Takes time and effort to avoid errors and consistently delivers polished, neat, well-documented work
- Communication: Clearly and concisely communicates with internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner
- “Customer” Service: Positively and effectively interacts with internal stakeholders and external clients by demonstrating an understanding of sophisticated business processes and systems
- Process/Management and Development: Collaboratively deals with ambiguous problems and efficiently works with a cross-functional team to assist in various projects
- Self-Starter: Identifies inefficiencies or improvement opportunities, proposes solutions, and works either collaboratively or independently as needed to execute in an effective and efficient manner
- Ownership: Able to see a task from inception through completion by gaining a robust understanding of the underlying activity, seeking input from all stakeholders, identifying dependencies, and recognizing upstream and downstream impacts
