NHL Product Manager
A day in the life of an Ice Hockey Product Manager

As an Ice Hockey Product Manager at Hawk-Eye Innovations, you will be an essential member of a team dedicated to exploring global opportunities within the world of ice hockey, both present and future. Your role will encompass a combination of business development and driving innovation in collaboration with our ice hockey clients.

You will work closely with major ice hockey leagues and team clients to identify technological solutions that align with their strategic objectives. Your responsibilities will include investigating and understanding the current landscape of ice hockey, identifying where existing solutions meet demand, and crafting a long-term vision for ice hockey that aligns with Hawk-Eye's business strategy.

Internally, you will collaborate closely with the Product Squads, Sales, and commercial teams to conduct market research, assess competition, and develop a strategic roadmap that prioritizes the most valuable opportunities for our customers and the business. Additionally, you will liaise with the Technical Product Managers to recommend and implement existing solutions, ensuring their viability in the ice hockey context.

For prioritized initiatives, you will collaborate with the Product and Enabling Squads to ideate and iteratively develop solutions within an agile environment. This iterative approach ensures the swift delivery of value and promotes continuous learning and improvement. You will also bear the responsibility of ensuring that the solutions meet client demands and oversee their development throughout their lifecycle, acting as a vital link between customers and centralized product squads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior global sports leaders to drive technological innovation in ice hockey, securing Hawk-Eye's position as a global sports technology leader.

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of customer strategies to identify opportunities for technology integration in ice hockey.

  • Co-create the global ice hockey roadmap with major leagues and clients, aligning it with their needs and strategic objectives.

  • Collaborate with product teams to create iterative story maps for developing new solutions.

  • Act as the voice of the user, client, and business objectives.

  • Provide context and closely collaborate with cross-functional teams of product managers, delivery managers, engineers, and designers to define, build, and deliver high-value ice hockey products.

  • Maintain ownership of strategic product roadmaps, fostering ongoing internal dialogue to establish priorities.

  • Engage with sales teams and regional Managing Directors to uncover opportunities arising from client relationships.

  • Identify new applications for existing technology in ice hockey.

  • Work with Product Owners to tailor existing solutions to meet customer demand.

  • Conduct primary and secondary research to extract insights, identify themes, and define areas of opportunity.

  • Formulate initiatives (Projects) outlining product and market narratives.

  • Develop strategies, key objectives, and performance metrics and use data for informed business decisions.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders during the visioning, ideation, and concept development phases of product development.

  • Recognize and respect cultural differences across ice hockey and regions, creating customer solutions that align with their strategic needs in a culturally sensitive manner.

  • Ensure the solution meets requirements through User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

  • Provide leadership for cross-regional and global solutions and act as a prominent figurehead for ice hockey innovations and ideation across the organization.

  • Assess risks related to value and business viability.

  • Work at a portfolio level.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

  • In-depth understanding of ice hockey, including day-to-day operational and performance needs as well as future growth opportunities.

  • 2-3 years of experience in a Product Manager role, managing all stages of the digital product lifecycle, with relevant stakeholder management experience.

  • Experience working with technically complex products.

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.

  • Proficiency in defining minimum marketable features and minimum viable products.

  • Strong experience in writing requirements and acceptance criteria.

  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient in stakeholder management and leadership.

  • Experience in building and owning product roadmaps.

  • Understanding of the technologies used in the products you have worked on.

Nice to have (but not a deal-breaker):

  • Experience working with creating and delivering products within a business-to-business setting.

  • Experience working on products that combine software and hardware.

As an Ice Hockey Product Manager, you will be an integral part of a larger Product team consisting of experienced Product Managers, Product Engineers, Delivery Managers, and UX/UI professionals, all reporting to the Product Director.
