Osmo is hiring a Director in Synthetic Chemistry, to help discover novel new aroma ingredients for the fragrance industry. The ideal candidate has chemistry experience with fragrance compounds and new fragrance discovery, thrives on rigorous experimentation, and is a team player. The candidate will be an integral member of a diverse discovery team, with opportunity for career growth.
You will:
- Manage a small team of chemists responsible for the optimization of new lead aroma compounds
- Work closely with our software engineers, data scientists and AI researchers for the continuous improvement of internal models
- Manage external chemists and collaborations to deliver on aggressive timelines
- Network across our multifunctional research team and integrate data across all relevant teams to improve the efficiency of our fragrance discovery programs
- Actively follow the literature within the areas of research interest
You have a:
- PhD in organic chemistry and 5 +years of relevant industry experience
- Exemplary skills in organic chemistry techniques with an emphasis on volatile compound synthesis and purification
- Parallel library design and synthesis, and an understanding of in-silico approaches are a plus
- Strong organizational, managerial and communication skills
- Strong leadership skills and a track record of success in the fragrance industry and new ingredient discovery including: hit identification, hit to lead and lead optimization
- Demonstrated record of delivering new aroma compounds
- Experience in managing external chemistry FTE resources is a plus
