As a Software Engineering Manager in Applications, you will facilitate the development of reliable, secure, and performant APIs that apply Kensho’s AI capabilities to specific customer workflows. You will collaborate with colleagues from Product, Machine Learning, Infrastructure, Design, Recruiting, and People Ops, as well as with other managers and engineers within Applications. You have a demonstrable history of disciplined, empathetic leadership and thrive in diversities of people and technology. Your verbal and written communication is proactive, efficient, and inclusive of your geographically-distributed colleagues. You are a thoughtful, deliberate technologist and share your knowledge generously.

We also value in-person collaboration, so there may be times when travel to one of our Kensho hubs (NYC/CAM) will be required for team meetings or company events.
Kensho states that the anticipated base salary range for the position is 180k–225k. In addition, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus and equity plans. At Kensho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

What You'll Do:

  • Facilitate the design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, maintenance, and improvement of multiple customer-facing
  • API products by a team of four to eight engineersMake personal contributions to these efforts, as appropriate
  • Support and encourage the professional development of your reports, including through continuous, individualized coaching and mentoring and regular evaluative feedback
  • Manage multiple project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables in accordance with complex business goals
  • Work proactively with key stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration across teams
  • Work proactively with colleagues across Engineering, Product, and Recruiting to ensure that engineering efforts are apportioned in a manner that supports both incumbent commitments and key new initiatives
  • Foster a team culture that embodies Kensho’s values: inclusion, curiosity, transparency, empowerment, and excellence

What You'll Need:

  • At least three years of experience leading remote or multi-site teams of at least four software engineers; at least two of these must be as a people manager
  • At least three additional years of direct experience developing production-grade software on a team
  • A demonstrable history of and commitment to effective collaboration with people of diverse job roles, abilities, backgrounds, and perspectives
  • Thoughtful and efficient communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative measures to assess and improve the health of teams and projects
  • Experience providing ongoing technical and interpersonal coaching and performance management to a diverse set of engineers
  • Experience mediating technical and interpersonal conflicts
  • Experience turning abstract business requirements into concrete technical plans
  • Experience working across all stages of the software development lifecycle
  • Sound reasoning about the behavior and performance of complex software systems, both abstractly and in the interpretation of scalar metrics
  • Proficiency with Python and familiarity with its ecosystem and idioms
