The role
Cleo is radically different from the norm and we’re looking for an engineering leader to guide and further develop our engineers across our cross functional product squads. You will be responsible for the engineering team’s delivery, management of our senior engineers and engineering managers as well as ensuring we rapidly create exceptional products for our customers.
Whilst this is a hands-off role, you were previously an engineer yourself and you understand what it means to be an outstanding engineer in a product-focused tech company.
About You
We’re looking for a Director of Engineering that has exceptional people leadership skills, with an understanding of building a culture of technical excellence. On top of this, you will:
- Know what great product-focused engineering looks like and will have worked with peers in product, design and data to build great products for consumers;
- Have worked on a consumer product and worked closely with peers on how to develop it from a engineering perspective;
- Be a great coach/mentor and be motivated by developing and supporting your teams to have an environment to do their best work;
- Have proven experience building high-performing teams;
- Have developed software engineers and managed managers;
- Be someone who promotes and celebrates the successes of the team, both internally and externally, attracting and retaining great talent;
- Have excellent communication and people leadership skills, that has enabled you to be a voice of engineering whilst clearly conveying your strategy to your team;
- You’re a compassionate manager that knows how to grow talent and get the most out of your teams;
- Have a can-do attitude, bias towards action and always looking to continuously improve.
What You’ll Be Doing
As the Director of Engineering, you will work closely with the VP Technology to develop our engineering strategy, grow the engineering team and cultivate a great engineering culture. You'll also:
- Work across the technology leadership team and peers in product, design and data to build, manage and retain a high-performing engineering team;
- Be a member of the team building an engaging consumer facing product, partnering across product, design and data science to push the Cleo product forward;
- Develop our recruitment process from being able to attract and source the best talent to onboarding engineers so they can be successful at Cleo in the shortest amount of time;
- Work with our engineering managers, tech leads and agile coaches to help teams continuously improve;
- Iterate and improve our engineering principles to empower engineers to make the right trade offs to focus on delivery great value to Cleo's customers;
- Cultivate a great engineering culture that is high performing, a great place for people to develop and do their best work in a high trust environment.
