Overview:
As one of our first software engineers, you’ll be at the forefront of tackling significant, ambiguous technical challenges that will ultimately change the way we think about CS Education for students K-12. Ideally, you are an experienced and skilled full-stack engineer who can help us build, scale and refine Kira Learning’s product suite. As a core contributor we also expect you to act as an advocate for engineering, a thought leader across the organization, and someone who can work quickly in a high-growth environment.
This is a full-time position that requires flexibility with work hours and availability outside of regular business hours. We have offices in Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco Bay Area, CA and New York City, NY and we ask that employees work from one of the three locations.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Write performant and high-quality code that meets our internal standards for style and maintainability. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review. Suggest iterations on our internal standards.
- Set and edit technical direction, aligning approaches across multiple areas. Translate business goals into technical solutions with realistic milestones.
- Work with other stakeholders to iterate on new features.
- Consistently ship large sized features and improvements.
- Solve technical problems of high scope and complexity.
- Proactively identify areas of improvement in the code base; seek out improvements to product quality, security and performance.
- Lead and contribute to our workflow process.
- Design and implement experiments to better our customers’ experiences.
- Explore data to provide insights into our business.
- Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges through long-term planning.
- Be a thought partner and key stakeholder for the full development cycle.
- Inject engineering context into organizational decisions, ensuring leaders and non-technical employees have a global perspective.
- Share insightful updates and presentations across the tech team and to the entire organization.
Experience & Skills
- 2-4 years of professional full-stack engineering experience.
- BS (or higher, e.g., MS, or PhD) in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
- Experience with modern web tooling and frameworks such as React. Strong programming fundamentals, including proficiency with C++
- Demonstrated experience in developing organizational technical strategy and communicating it to various audiences.
- Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems, including to non-technical employees, and propose thorough iterative solutions.
- Expert CS fundamentals with experience across multiple disciplines, with one or more areas of deep knowledge and expertise.
- Stellar ability to coach, motivate and grow other people, including those under your reporting structure.
- Ability to confidently and thoughtfully influence across the organization, including with leadership.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; can patiently, professionally and effectively communicate with others. You understand how important the details in communication are too, like body language and vocal tonality.
- Nimble, scrappy and adaptable. Can roll with the punches and thrive in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
- A positive, can-do attitude. You’re not deterred by minor setbacks and are able to swiftly overcome ambiguity.
- Will consistently cultivate a culture of inclusion where all team members feel a sense of belonging and can bring their authentic selves to work.
- Strong proficiency in Google Workspace Suite and Microsoft Office Suite programs
$160,000 - $195,000 a year
Competitive salary ($160,000 - $195,000) and equity package in a well-funded, high growth company. Compensation is based on a number of relevant factors such as location, professional experience and related skill sets
