How You’ll Contribute:
As a Machine Learning Engineering Manager, you will work with the VP, Engineering and ML Product Manager to build and lead a team that elevates our state-of-the-art Deep Learning text-to-speech, content moderation and related machine learning models. Your primary responsibility will be to lead a team of engineers and data scientists in the development and deployment of machine learning models and systems that help us achieve our strategic goals.
In your day-today, you'll work on:
- Leading the Machine Learning Team: You will be responsible for leading a team of ML Platform engineers, data engineers and data scientists, setting goals, providing career guidance, preparing performance reviews, managing their day-to-day work, and ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to complete their tasks.
- Machine learning strategy and roadmap: You will be responsible for working with the CTO and Staff-level ML Engineer and TTS Product Manager to execute the Deep Learning TTS strategy for your team, working closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities and ensuring that your team is working on the right projects.

What We’re Looking For

Who You Are: an Experienced Data Engineer working in Applied Machine Learning
The WellSaid Labs Applied Machine Learning Team works with stakeholders to identify, refine, and solve problems at the intersection of machine learning and customer needs. This team understands customer needs through quantitative and qualitative research and they work across WSL teams to understand how machine learning is utilized and how it can be improved.
Improving and maintaining our ML solutions includes creating test datasets and metrics to define and gauge success, working with the ML Platform Team to prioritize model updates, training new models for deployment, coordinating releases, and educating the customer on any new capabilities. The Applied ML Team is consistently testing and reviewing any deployed models.
As a Data Engineer on the Applied ML Team at WellSaid Labs, you will be working to regularly improve our ML services, chiefly our text-to-speech service. You will own the strategy and development of our testing frameworks, customer research, and model improvements. add new datasets; train, deploy, and evaluate new models; and design experiments and algorithms for solving new and creative TTS challenges. You will build automated systems for evaluating ML performance: accuracy, consistency, and customer acceptance. You will summarize your findings into compelling reports and then collaborate with the Platform and Applied ML teams to build solutions. It would be great for you to be familiar with Text-to-Speech technology, database querying, data labeling and preparing, crafting workflows for crowd-sourcing evaluations, and metrics reporting.
How You’ll Contribute:
In your day-to-day, you will:
- Work directly with text and audio data: gathering, compiling, and organizing datasets, preparing data for machine training, evaluating results, debugging problematic data
- Train and deploy ML models: incorporating new data, monitoring training metrics, debugging failing code, deploying a model for customer use
- Evaluate ML models: consider causation or correlation between training data and ML predictions, design ML experiments and establish success criteria, gather and evaluate metrics including mean opinion scores; design evaluation tools for measuring pronunciation accuracy, naturalness, text normalization coverage, among others to minimize customer-model friction
- Additional research projects: interesting data or use cases, alternative services and solutions, internal process improvements, new quality evaluation exercises, etc.
Additionally, this role requires you to write and execute code that enables you, and others, to perform each of these tasks. What We’re Looking For

Our team is fully distributed throughout the U.S., and we support flexible schedules - work where and when you work best; we just ask that within your work day, you be able to meet our Core Business Hours of 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. PT. We ask that you be able to travel up to four times per year, to spend valuable in person time with the team!
Compensation and Benefits
As a startup, we strive to be externally competitive with companies at a similar size and stage, and internally fair in our pay practices. The hiring salary range for this role is base pay of $175,000 - $195,000, with additional incentive pay of $20,000-$40,000 annually. This represents the target offer range given the scope and experience expectations for this role.
In hiring, we are generally open to a range of experiences and levels, and recognize that as a candidate you may be less experienced or more senior than this job description as posted. If that's the case, an updated salary range will be shared with you if you move forward in our hiring process.
As a WSL team member, once you are hired, the salary range for your role expands to ensure you are able to receive performance-based raises and grow in your role.

Who You Are: A Proactive, Hands On, Fearless Outbound Sales Leader
We are looking for a Senior Sales Manager to join our growing SMB sales team!! This is an unique opportunity to join a fast-growing startup early and to make a meaningful impact in a lead role.
As Senior Sales Manager, you will blend your talent for people development and operational sales knowledge to drive results. In this role, you will hire, manage and motivate, optimize existing outbound sales motions, and be responsible for team metrics for 6-8 direct reports. You will hire, train and mentor account executives and sales team members to develop a high-performing team.
How You’ll Contribute:
As a direct report to the VP of Sales, you will be tasked with optimizing the outbound sales motions and teams. Strategy will be set, and execution and optimization is the core job function.
In your day-to-day, you will:
- Coach, mentor, and guide the team in developing consultative and solution-based sales skills
- Recruit, train, and lead a team of 6-8 sales professionals
- Training sales motion adaptation
- Work with Sales Ops to measure your team metrics
- Be in office three days a week for 8 hours a day.
- Be accountable for increasing revenue and scaling the team
- Effectively work cross-functionally across the organization with marketing and customer success, to develop solutions that meet client needs
- Showcase results and improvement in performance through dashboard and key metrics.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you ideally have successfully led sales, existing business, and operations in an early stage, high-growth SaaS technology environment. You have experience successfully navigating complex enterprise sales cycles and buying committees and still have the ability to jump on calls to assist your team.
While we don’t expect you to join WellSaid as an AI expert, you are a tech enthusiast/creative at heart. This is a key requirement to become a contributing member of WellSaid. Our customers are creating next-generation content, experiences, and products, and you will be there supporting them to achieve their creative goals.
You also have some combination of the following:
- Have shown success creating an outbound motion and current with latest sales tactics and methodology.
- 8+ years of sales management experience
- 8+ years of technology sales experience
- 3+ years of outbound motion experience
- Passion for and commitment to using technology ethically, for good
- Ability to hire, train, and coach a high-performance sales team
- Ability to build relationships with strategic client and industry thought leaders
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and build great relationships with highly technical customers
- Prior experience at a growth stage technology company
