We're looking for a Founding Software Engineer passionate about tackling big data challenges in the next-generation data clouds. Responsibilities:
Performance Tuning - Analyze and improve the performance and efficiency of the ETL pipelines by identifying bottlenecks, finding out root causes, applying best practices like incremental computation and parallel computation, and dogfooding Bluesky products.
Development - Develop high-performance and scalable ETL pipelines, leveraging a powerful stack of modern tools and frameworks for data integration, transformation, and orchestration.
Management - Effectively configure, monitor, and scale production environment involving Snowflake (similar DataWarehouse), dbt, Airbyte, and Prefect (any modern data frameworks / tools), ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance.
Stewardship - Own or support the data definitions and lineage across our entire data warehouse.
Mentoring - Help teach other team members about data architecture and also be a consultant for developers who need help with data.
Learning - Stay current on technical knowledge and tooling to help the team utilize new technologies.
Must Haves:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent
5+ years of software engineering experience at a senior/staff level
Rock solid engineering fundamentals with an understanding of query processing internals
Practical experience in data engineering and data warehousing
Fluent in object-oriented programming and SQL optimization

What you’ll do:
Own the product direction for Bluesky’s core data efficiency platform, collaborating closely across design, engineering, customer experience and product marketing
Work hand-in-hand with customers, engaging in frequent dialogue to understand their needs, gather feedback, and overall ensure that product direction is in tune with customer needs. You are the champion of the customer, while remaining laser focused on delivering significant business impact
Guide the prioritization of work and help make resourcing and prioritization tradeoffs in service of our customers’ and our company’s goals
Understand the market, competitive landscape, and sales engagements to define key focus areas for the product to achieve product market fit.
Who you are:
Have 5+ years of relevant experience in a technical role, with at least 2 of those in a product management role (ideally working on a developer-focused SaaS product)
Domain expertise in the area of data management, Big Data analytics, data warehousing and/or cloud technologies
Extensive experience working with Data Engineers in order to understand customer needs and develop product solutions with keen emphasis on stellar UX
Experience collaborating with the engineering teams to create product specs for sprint planning, working with leadership to plan and execute sprints, and unblocking engineers as needed
Experience using quantitative (e.g., metrics, analytics) and qualitative data (e.g., research, user feedback) to inform product prioritization, decision-making and building cross-functional consensus
Demonstrate excellent project management skills by partnering with engineering, design, and other functions to execute on roadmaps with high velocity
You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the willingness to present and defend your ideas to technical stakeholders and executives alike

Pay Transparency
Compensation for this role consists of a base salary, stock options, and benefits. The expected base salary range is $160,000 - $210,000 annually and will be determined based on applicable qualifications such as level, education, skills and experience.
